Beginner Exmoor Walks
- Heddon Valley to Heddon’s mouth is a 2 mile round trip with an easy riverside walk through ancient woodland to a pebble beach. Well maintained paths and gentle gradients.
- Valley of Rocks is a 2 mile loop and features a coastal path with unique rock formations and sea views. Relatively flat and short.

Tarr Steps Circular is a 4 miles walk and features woodland trails and a historic clapper bridge. Gentle paths and management distances for new walkers.
Expert Exmoor Walks
- Watersmeet and Countisbury Circular is a 6 mile walk featuring a gorge, riverside paths and coastal views. Included steep ascents to Countisbury Hill.
- Dunkery Beacon is a 4 mile round trip and is Exmoor's highest point. There are steep accents to the summit.
- Extended Valley of Rocks to Lee Bay can be up to several miles and features rugged coastal scenery. Involves uneven paths along the coast.
Around The Mole Resort
- Walk 1: Enjoy a gentle stroll perfect for taking in the crisp winter air. Start at the resort, turn right towards Portsmouth Arms, pass through charming Devon farms, and circle back into Chittlehamholt.
- Walk 2: This slightly longer walk includes some muddy tracks for a bit of adventure. Head towards the Manor House, then follow the bridle path known as Muxley Lane. Continue down to the main road, where you can catch a glimpse of the picturesque River Mole.
- Walk 3: This enchanting route leads you through ancient woodlands filled with magical oak trees. The trail doubles back on itself, taking you down to the river for a tranquil escape.
- Walk 4: A longer circular walk through the stunning Taw Valley. Immerse yourself in the beauty of majestic oak trees, quaint country cottages, and the serene countryside, making this one of the most rewarding routes near the resort.

Fairways Cottages (East and West):
These spacious cottages feature inviting open fires, perfect for warming up after a day exploring the frosty Devon countryside. Each cottage boasts four double bedrooms, private gardens, and hot tubs for ultimate relaxation. For larger gatherings, Fairways East and West can interconnect, accommodating up to 16 guests—ideal for families or groups seeking a memorable winter escape.
Stables Cottage:
Centrally located within the resort, Stables Cottage combines spaciousness with a homely, intimate charm. With three double bedrooms and a snug, welcoming atmosphere, it’s an excellent choice for couples or smaller families.
Deer View Cottage:
For those seeking a tranquil winter hideaway, Deer View Cottage offers seclusion and some of the resort’s most breathtaking views. Its open-plan living and kitchen area, along with three bedrooms, make it the perfect base for a peaceful and scenic stay.
Lodges:
Choose from a range of 2-, 3-, or 4-bedroom lodges, situated in either the serene meadow area or the picturesque valley of the resort. Each lodge provides panoramic views of the surrounding landscapes, whether it’s the rolling meadow or the dramatic Mole Valley. Relax in your private hot tub or enjoy the crisp winter air from your spacious balcony—perfect for creating magical winter memories.
